March 7, 2008 PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) men and women's basketball teams have wrapped up their regular season schedules and now prepare for the upcoming Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tournament starting on March 11, 2008 in Raleigh, N.C. After both teams' final games on Thursday night in Dover, Del against Delaware State University, and the rest of the conference finishing up as well, the seeding has been determined for the tournament. The Lady Hawks, who tied a school record for wins this season, will be the fifth seed in the tournament. They lost their last two conference games to second seeded Coppin State and third seeded Delaware State. The race between two and six was so tight that it wasn't decided until the final day of action. UMES could have been second with a win in both games or third with a win over Delaware State, but losses to both, and a Hampton win over Howard, pushed Hampton into the fourth seed via tiebreaker and UMES to the fifth seed. The two women's teams will play in #4 vs. #5 game on Thursday, March 13 at 2:30 p.m. The men's team had a shot at moving into tenth place but a loss on Thursday night meant the Hawks will be seeded 11th in the tournament and will play sixth seeded Florida A&M University Wednesday, March 12 at 3:00 p.m. Stay tuned to www.umeshawks.com or www.meachoops.com for complete coverage of the tournament and UMES' journey through it. |
