PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Men's and Women's Basketball teams wrap up a two game home stand with a match-up against Norfolk State University NSU) tonight in the William P. Hytche Athletic Center. The Lady Hawks (7-8, 0-2 MEAC) enter tonight's game in search of their first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) win of the season after dropping their last two, including a 72-59 loss to North Carolina A&T. UMES is led by April McBride (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle H.S.) who is averaging 25.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game through conference play. For the season, McBride leads the Lady Hawks with 15.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 2.33 steals per game. Fellow teammate Tiffany Reid (Philadelphia, Pa./National Christian Academy) is the team's second leading scorer with 13.9 points per game, while averaging a team-high 2.33 assists per game. Meanwhile, NSU (2-11, 0-4 MEAC) also comes into the game looking for their first MEAC win of the season and on the losing end of their last four contests. Areya Walker leads the Spartans offensive attack with 12.1 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. NSU leads the series with UMES 15.5. The Spartans won both meetings last season, which included knocking the Lady Hawks out of the MEAC Tournament in the first round with a 58-54 win. UMES dropped their last game to North Carolina A&T, 61-49. Ed Tyson (Baltimore, Md./Walbrook H.S.) leads the Hawks with 18.0 points per game, while backcourt mate Marc Davis (Baltimore, Md./Walbrook H.S.) is the team's second leading scorer and top assist man with 11.1 points and 2.88 assists per game respectively.
NSU (6-9, 3-1 MEAC) will be looking to get back on track after dropping their first MEAC game of the season on Monday to Delaware State, 69-54. The Spartans already have conference wins over North Carolina A&T, Coppin State, and Morgan State. Senior Tony Murphy, a Pre-Season All-MEAC First Team Selection, leads the Spartans offense with 18.1 points per game, while Corey Lyons is adding 15.2 points per game. The Spartans lead the series with UMES 31-14 and have not lost to the Hawks in six years, a 95-88 overtime loss.
