HIGH POINT, N.C. - The Lady Hawks' Bowling Team posted a 7-3 record at the 2007 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Round-Up, an event that pits the northern vs. southern MEAC schools. The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) rolled through the competition with the exception of school from Florida where they posted a 1-3 record, splitting with Florida A & M (FAMU) and dropping two decisions to Bethune-Cookman College (BCC). UMES opened the event on January 12 with three wins in head-to head competition, knocking off North Carolina A & T (NCAT) (927-893), Norfolk State (877-774), and South Carolina State (943-762). They dropped their fourth match of the day to the Wildcats of BCC, 960-861. The only other head to head game came against FAMU where they toppled the Rattlers on day two, 919-757. Individually the Hawks posted seven games over 200 in the five matches. Christine King tallied a 234, a season high against NCAT, while Sara DiScioscia recorded a 201 against Norfolk State, Jessica Worsley a 210 vs. South Carolina State (SCSU), and Marion Singleton a 200 and 201 against SCSU and BCC. King tallied a 201 and DisScioscia a 212 against FAMU. In Baker games the Hawks took a 728-540 decision from Norfolk State in four games and a 623-466 win over SCSU in three games. The Sunshine State got the best of them again however as BCC toppled UMES 724-785 and FAMU edged the Lady Hawks by four pins, 683-687. UMES did end the tournament with a win, a 696-656 win over the Aggies of NCAT. UMES improves to 54-12 on the season and maintained one of the top four winning percentages in the country. They are currently ranked fifth in the latest National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA) poll. The Lady Hawks now face the MEAC Northern Division schools this weekend in the MEAC North meet in Baltimore. |
