The Lady Hawks posted a record of 62-13 when the poll was released, the second most wins in the nation. They are currently 69-16, adding seven more wins over the weekend When the poll was released the Hawks also owned the second best winning percentage in the country at an .827 clip.

Ahead of them in the polls is defending National Champion Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU), holding on to the top spot. UMES lost twice to FDU this past weekend, including in the championship match of the Capital Classic. However, before the weekend FDU had not defeated the Hawks in their two meetings.

Vanderbilt is second in the nation followed by New Jersey City University. The Gothic Knights were third in the current poll but fell twice to UMES at the Capital Classic, taking third place overall.

The two-time NCAA Champion Nebraska Cornhuskers are ranked fourth and Central Missouri is fifth. Central Missouri had posted a record of 49-17 at the time of the poll release, more losses and less wins than the sixth ranked Hawks.

UMES had 349 total points, just 19 points out of fifth. They also received one first place vote in the poll. Nebraska received a vote, Vanderbilt four votes and FDU the rest, 13.

UMES has not met Nebraska or Central Missouri this season but should see both of them this weekend at the Morgan State Invitational in Baltimore, Md.

"I am a little disappointed that we fell in the poll," said Head Coach Sharon Brummell. "However, we are a very good team who has competed with the top teams in the country. As long as we keep this up we can make a serious run at the title."
