Princess Anne, Md. - The Lady Hawks Bowling Team of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is about to turn Millsboro, Delaware into the collegiate bowling capital of the country, if at least for two days. The Hawks are set to host the second annual Hawk Classic, a 16-team tournament featuring some of the country's top women's bowling teams.

"We are set for another exciting event," said UMES Head Coach Sharon Brummell. "We got a lot of compliments at last year's tournament and we feel we have made some improvements in order to make this one of the top events in the collegiate bowling world," Brummell added.

One of those features is the field. 16 NCAA teams will be at the event, including the defending National Champions, Fairleigh Dickinson University. The Knights are currently sitting atop the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) poll. Other top teams include Vanderbilt University, the nation's fourth ranked team and New Jersey City University, currently ranked sixth. The field also features #10 Sacred Heart University, #12 Southern University, #13 Morgan State University and #16 Delaware State University.

The host Hawks are currently ranked seventh by the NTCA.

The action begins on Saturday, November 18, 2006 at 10:00 am and continues through the day. The tournament features five head to head games followed by four Baker style games. The Hawks are still the only collegiate team to bowl a perfect Baker game in NCAA play. The Baker game is a true team effort where the lead bowler bowls frames one and six, the second bowler frames two and seven and so on through five bowlers.

Millsboro Lanes in Millsboro, Del. will host this two-day event. The action continues on Sunday at 9:00 am and runs through noon.

"We expect an exciting two days of competition," said Brummell. "The top teams get to face off against each other and some northern schools get to see some southern schools, it should be great."

The five southern schools include Norfolk State, Winston-Salem State, Grambling and the aforementioned Southern and Vanderbilt Universities. Other teams participating include St. Peters College and Aldephi, Cheyney, Hampton and Howard Universities.
