Alex Temkin is in his third year as head coach of the Lady Hawks volleyball team, coming to UMES after two years at American International College. The Lady Hawks are 24-44 (10-10 MEAC) under his tutelage. In 2004, his inaugural season, Temkin guided UMES to the MEAC Championship game against nationally ranked Florida A&M. Temkin accumulated a 35-25 record at American International College (AIC), making two trips to the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament. He went 7-7 in conference and 13-17 overall in his inaugural campaign there, taking sixth place and receiving a tenth place regional ranking. Just one year later he took AIC to third place, accumulating a 22-9 record, 11-3 in the Northeast-10 and a regional ranking of eighth. Prior to the post at AIC he served as an Assistant Coach at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. There he spent three seasons. He began in 1999 with a team that went 15-11, 10-8 in the Atlantic-10 and sixth in the region. Over the next two years he would guide the Minutemen to a 14-13 record in each season, a regional ranking of tenth each year, a 10-6 A-10 record in 2000 and 8-8 in 2001. Temkin has coached at the high school and club volleyball levels, compiling a 68-16 record in high school coaching at Turners Falls High School. He also worked with the Western Massachusetts Juniors and Husky Volleyball Club in Connecticut where he spent four years as the Assistant Director. As a player, Temkin has played in eight USAV Open National Championships, two USA A Level National Championships, and made four trips to the NCAA Collegiate Club National Championships with the University of Massachusetts where he was a starter every season. He was a two-year Junior Olympic Volleyball player and a Silver medallist on the 1985 Junior National Championships. Temkin received his bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts in 1990 and currently resides Salisbury, Maryland. |
